Oyster mushrooms are a rare delicacy that can add flair to regular dishes. Some say they look, smell, and taste like oysters. Others say that they have a slight pepper taste to them. Either way, their unique flavour and texture are a treat. They can be used in most mushroom dishes, especially ones that call for mushrooms as a main ingredient – that way, their essence can be fully enjoyed!

Cleaning

Remove any stems from the mushrooms as they are often too tough to enjoy. Flush out the underside of the caps with minimal water. These mushrooms are naturally very moist, so you don’t want to use too much water. To dry, gently press the caps between paper or cloth towels.

Cooking

Oyster mushrooms are usually used in stir fries because the cap is so thin that it cooks quickly. Keep this in mind when adding these mushrooms to any dish – try to add them last (or at least towards the end). Larger pieces should be cut into smaller pieces for even cooking.
