I don't know about you, but I love a good scent. Oh, to come home to a lavender-filled house, to smell lemon-fresh laundry, to spray the kitchen sink with a hint of tea tree these are what I call scents that make sense.
Historically, scents were derived from natural plant ingredients. Pretty harmless, huh. Well, those were the good old days. That is not to say that you can't find natural and wholesome scented products on store shelves but you've got to read the labels. Beware of words like 'fragrance' because that could mean a myriad of things a mean myriad of things. According to The National Academy of Sciences, 95 percent of the ingredients used to create fragrances are synthetic compounds derived from petroleum, including benzene derivatives, aldehydes, and many other toxins. Sorry to burst your bubble, but those are the facts.
How about some safe scents? For some seasonal fall warmth, try simmering some Okanagan cider on the stove with a cinnamon stick and nutmeg. You can even drink it too now that's pretty natural.
How about a room or linen spray? Try mixing the following: 1 cup distilled water 5-10 drops essential oil (for fall, try 6 drops orange and 3 drops cinnamon) 2 tbsp. rubbing alcohol
Now, doesn't that make scents? All the wonderful smells that are natural and uplifting don't be afraid to breathe deeply without the fear of synthetic fragrance.
