What are YOU Doing for Earth Day 2010? (UH Customer Responses!)

Added on April 20, 2010

Last week, we asked the question, “What Are You Doing for Earth Day this Year?” Here are some of your responses…

**My children’s school (The First Lutheran Christian School) will be turning off all classroom lights for one hour! Jennifer Monaghan

**I am a new Mom of a 4 week old little girl named Maëlle. Together we will celebrate her first Earth Day by using only reusable cloth diapers! I also plan to take her out for a walk to enjoy our beautiful fresh clean air in the Okanagan and all the new spring blossoms. Jennifer Bryan

**I manage a daycare and the kids and I are planting flowers in eggshells and everyone gets to take them home to watch them grow and eventually plant them in their own gardens. (We’ll also be) talking about recycling, turning off the lights and tap, composting, etc. Katie Nugent

**This year we will be celebrating earth day by picking up garbage with our daughter's sparks group at the club! Nicole Richard

**Today for Earth Day we started using the rain water we collected to water our garden. Problem? We didn't get a lot of rain in out bucket but we are trying! Jennifer Mackereth

**I am going to do like Earth Hour and turn everything off in the evening. Teri Conroy

**The Rowan family is celebrating Earth week going to the David Suzuki Foundation Book Swap at Pandosy Blendz on Sat. April 24 at 10am, and then to GO FISH day at Mission Creek Park!

**We have carved out 225 sq ft. of our modest city lawn, reclaiming it from unruly dandelions and rebel grasses to put to better use! This spring 2010 project is dedicated to Mother Earth, in admiration and gratitude for her tireless care of us. Rose Cradock-Henry

**For Earth Day, we are going to eat only organic foods all day. Michele Rule

**The Green Team at Interior Health's corporate offices is organizing an Earth Day potluck at which we will promote how eating local, organic, and sustainable food benefits our health and the environment. We will be running the potluck simultaneously at each of our 4 offices and are encouraging participants to bring a homemade dish made with local, organic, or vegetarian food. Green Team members at Kirschner Plaza office will also provide a free cup of coffee (Backyard Beans) to everyone who brings a reusable mug to the lunch. Thanks to Urban Harvest for the generous donation of a family box gift certificate and for offering a 20% discount at this Saturday's warehouse sale. We really appreciate your support! Leslie Manders

**For earth day, I am working at Good Earth Coffeehouse (Pandosy), and we are taking donations and giving away free organic free trade shade grown coffees. Come check it out! Tina M

**I am getting my new clothes dryer, a new clothes line in the backyard! Also I am excited to see the ad for our business in the Globe and Mail together with the Bullfrog Power ad. (We buy green electricity from them for our business). Veronique Broger

**On a "big" level, we are replacing our furnace so that it will actually heat our house (at a lower cost, even) and on a day-to-day basis we are working on using what we have rather than going to get different. Out of breadcrumbs? Try some crushed cereal. Making new clothes? Look to see what fabric is on hand. And, most importantly, use the food that was canned and frozen last year before buying more. We might even get the freezer level lowered! I know a full freezer is more efficient, but we will hopefully need and have room for this year's produce.

**For earth day we are celebrating our daughter Serena's b-day and we are going outside with Dad to play and go for a walk to see nature at the Mission Creek Park.
